Improved LMS Course Copy
OHM now provides more options to instructors when making copies of LMS courses containing OHM content. The new options allow instructors to keep significant changes they’ve made to LMS courses, instead of losing these changes during the course copy process.
Prior to the Update
Previously, when an instructor copied a LMS course containing OHM content, they had two options:
- Copy: OHM creates a new copy of the original OHM course from which the content was exported. Any changes to this copy would not be carried over in a future LMS course copy. Instead, all LMS copies are based on the originating OHM course.
- Associate: Rather than copying the OHM course, “Associate” reuses the same course used to generate the LMS course export. This option is only available to the original OHM course owner.
After the Update
The May 2018 OHM update expanded the options LMS Course Copy options:
- Create a copy of the original course (ID#): Same as “Copy” described above
- Associate (ID#): Same as “Associate” described above
- Create a copy of another course: In this case, OHM presents a list of the teacher’s own previous copies of the original course. This option allows the teacher to select a version of the course that will include their changes in the new course copy.
- Associate with an existing course: In this case, OHM presents a list of previous copies of the original course. This option allows reuse of a previous copy without creating a new OHM course.

Canvas (only) due dates
For faculty using Canvas+OHM integration, you can now set assignment due dates from Canvas to OHM. When this setting is enabled, OHM sets the due date to match the Canvas due date when students click on the OHM link from Canvas.
Instructions
To enable Canvas to set assignment due dates in OHM, follow these steps:
- Specify assignment due dates in Canvas.
- Go to your course settings
- Select the checkbox for “Allow the LMS to set assessment due dates?”
Once Canvas due dates are set, OHM sets the due date to match the Canvas due date when students click on the OHM link from Canvas.
**Important Notes:
- Use this feature only if you plan to set assignment due dates in Canvas rather than OHM.
- This calendar/due date sync happens only one way: Canvas → OHM
- This feature does not map Canvas’ available dates to any dates in OHM.
What if you don’t use Canvas?
Because Canvas supports this feature via LTI, its users get this handy feature first if they are using OHM integrated with Canvas. Lumen monitors other LMS providers’ support for LTI to determine when we can add this feature for those using other learning management systems.
Group Admin: Batch Create Instructor Accounts
For group administrator accounts, OHM now supports the ability to batch-create instructor accounts. To use this time-saving feature, follow these steps:
- From the OHM home page, click on the “Admin Page” button.
- Click “Batch Add Instructors”.
- Upload a properly formatted CSV file with no headers. Use the following format to create the CSF file:
Column 1: username
Column 2: temporary password
Column 3: First Name
Column 4: Last Name
Column 5: email
Column 6, 7, etc. May include course IDs to create copies of for that instructor

**Important Notes:
At this time, OHM doesn’t send alerts or auto-notification for new instructor accounts generated using this batch-create method, so you should contact each instructor to provide their credentials and orientation.
