      OHM Desmos Interactives

      What are Desmos Interactives in OHM?

      These are a new item type in OHM to support student learning and mastery of graphing concepts, leveraging Desmos graphing technology. The interactive item type supports rich text editing, embedding Desmos graphs directly into each page, and paging to organize instructional content into short easy to digest pieces. Think powerpoints but accessible, interactable, and with awesome equation typesetting!

      How to explore and adopt the College Algebra Interactives Collection

      Want your own copy of the College Algebra Interactives?

      You can get your own copy in one of two ways:

      Option 1: Create a copy of the Lumen Learning College Algebra course from the course browser.

      1. Log into www.ohm.lumenlearning.com and click on the “Add New Course Button” 

      2. Click on “Copy a template course”. Locate College Algebra - Lumen Learning and click on “Copy This Course”.

      3. Fill out your course details then submit to create your own copy of College Algebra - Lumen Learning, complete with Desmos Interactives. 

      Option 2: Copy the interactives into one of your existing courses!

      1. From within your OHM course, in the left navigation panel, click on “Copy” from the Course Items list. 

      2. Click on “Copy a template course”. Locate College Algebra - Lumen Learning and click on “Copy This Course”.

      3. Choose the radio button “Select items to copy”. Select checkboxes for all the Desmos Interactive items you would like to copy. Click on the “Copy Items” button at the bottom of the page.

      How to create and modify interactives

      From within any of your OHM courses:

      To create a new Desmos Interactive

      1. From the “Add An Item” dropdown menu, select “Add Desmos Interactive”. 

      2. Author your interactive:

        • Title (optional): the name of the interactive as displayed on the link as well as at the top of the interactive

        • Start date (optional): if specified, the interactive will only be available beginning on the start date

        • End date (optional): if specified, the interactive will only be available until the end date

        • Summary (optional): this will display in both course home as well as at the top of the interactive in student view and preview.

        • In the lower panel, we have the main authoring area. 

          • In the left area, you may add and title pages.

          • In the right area, rich text editing with the ability to “Add Desmos” either by a URL from desmos.com or by creating a new Desmos graph from scratch right within OHM. 

      3. Be sure to save your changes before exiting!

      To edit an existing Desmos Interactive

      1. On the interactive, click on the gear icon and select “Modify”.

      2. Be sure to save your changes before exiting.
