OHM: Desmos Embedded Calculator

The embedded calculator supports all three Desmos calculators (basic, scientific, and graphing) and allows for mix and matching within an assessment. Teachers can specify which assessments have it enabled or not. 

 

Enabling the Calculator for an Entire Assessment

The embedded calculator can be enabled for all questions on an assessment in the assessment settings page. 

  1. Click on the gear icon next to the assessment for which you would like to configure the Desmos Embedded Calculator. Select "Settings" from the dropdown.
  2. Expand the "Help and Hints" section.
  3. Locate "Embedded Calculator". Select from the dropdown menu the desired calculator to enable for the assessment. 
  4. Click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page.

In the next section, we describe how to enable/disable or select a different calculator type for a specific question.

Configuring Embedded Calculator for Specific Question(s)

The assessment setting above specifies the default configuration for the embedded calculator and in the question settings we can override these defaults.

For a single question:

  1. Click on the gear icon next to the assessment for which you would like to configure the Desmos Embedded Calculator. Select "Questions" from the dropdown.
  2. Click on the "Action" dropdown menu and select "Change Settings."
  3. Locate "Show Embedded Calculator?". Select from the dropdown menu the desired calculator settings for that particular question.
  4. Click the "Save Settings" button at the bottom.

For a set of questions:

  1. Click on the gear icon next to the assessment for which you would like to configure the Desmos Embedded Calculator. Select "Questions" from the dropdown.
  2. Use the checkboxes to select which questions you would like to bulk configure the calculator.
  3. Click on the "Change Settings" button.
  4. In the "Show Embedded Calculator" column, adjust the dropdown menus to select the desired calculator for the corresponding question.
  5. Click the "Save Settings" button at the bottom.
