This checklist covers importing your course, reviewing and aligning content, setting up messaging tools, materials to add to your syllabus, setting up your gradebook, and sharing student support resources.
This checklist covers everything you need to get your Lumen One course ready for the start of class.
Import Lumen One into your LMS
To begin, you need to have the LTI in place at your institution. If you are unsure if this has been done at your institution, connect with your Lumen representative or submit a ticket.
Import a Lumen One Course Cartridge
Here are instructions for Blackboard and Blackboard Ultra.
Here are instructions for Brightspace.
Here are instructions for Canvas.
Here are instructions for Moodle.
Review and Align Content
- Note: If you are not the lead faculty member(s) responsible for maintaining your institution's course, skip this step.
We recommend using these five steps to preview the course content to align with your Lumen One course with your schedule and learning outcomes.
- Find the learning outcomes in the Faculty Engagement Center. Compare your institution’s course outcomes to the Lumen One learning outcomes.
- Decide which Lumen One course modules to include in your course.
- Use the LMS tools to hide (unpublish) or delete any Lumen One modules you will not cover. We recommend hiding content versus deleting just in case you want to use the material in the future. We have information on how to customize your Study Plan here.
- Use the LMS tools to organize the modules into the order of your course schedule.
- If you are teaching for another term using our materials, you can copy your previous course using your LMS. We have information on how to copy your course here.
Set Up Messaging Tools
- We have step-by-step instructions to set up and customize the messaging tools here.
- You need to set up the messaging tools for EVERY section.
Add required materials to your Syllabus
Set Up Your Gradebook
Set up your grade book for our quizzes and graded participation.
- Here is information about Grading and Assessments here.
- Use the LMS tools to set up point values, due dates, and customizing your gradebook.
- Use the LMS tools to add any additional content or learning activities you’d like to include.
- We recommend the quizzes to be worth 20% of the student's overall grade and the study plan to be 5% of the student's overall grade.
Add Lumen One Student Support Resources in LMS
You can provide these Orientation Materials for Your Students.
- Promote Student Support Resources
Lumen is here to help! Your course includes a set of student resources called, “Students: How to Use Lumen Course Materials” with tips and videos to help them better understand the courseware. Keep these links easily accessible in your LMS and offer them as a “first stop” for support as students begin navigating the course. - If students need technical assistance, they can submit a support request.
- Encourage students to introduce themselves.
Your course includes a “Students: Introduce Yourself” assignment. This short survey helps students share things like the preferred pronunciation of their name or their goals for the course. (We even ask how they are feeling about the course!) You can adjust the due date and points for this assignment to encourage completion. Data from the survey will populate inside the “Student List” in your Faculty Engagement Center. We have videos for students here.
